Girl Gang - May 2024

It was great to get together and share and visit.  We were all happy to see Trudy Evans and Laraine Graehl back with us and we were especially glad to see Valerie Marsh back after a nasty fall in December.  She has been recovering and stitching away while she was healing.

Julie is the queen of applique and does beautiful flowers and birds.  This darling quilt is an Irene Blanck pattern - Sweet Tweets.  So cute Julie!

Kerry brought this darling sock monkey all bundled up in her Honey Flow quilt.  The iconic sock monkey was first made in 1932.  Kerry did a cute job!

Kerry also shared this happy Honey Flow quilt that she designed years ago.  Hexies were popular and she started making them until she had a stack of flowers.  She stitched them together, put them on white and black polka dot fabric, added a black and white flower border with vines and pots and flowers.  She was so nice to share the pattern with the group.  It will come in a separate email.

Debra just got her Well Dressed Hare quilt back from the quilters and has it bound and finished.  It is such a charming quilt and each wool mister bunny has his own pocket watch.  It is such a darling quilt!

Debra found this bunny fabric at Quilts Etc.  It is perfect!

Jennifer has finished this Harvest Pumpkins quilt top and it is ready to go to the quilter.  It is made with such rich colors and will be fun to put out in the autumn.  The pattern is in the book County Seat Quilts.

Leslie is working on quilting her Gone to Texas quilt.  It is a copy of an antique quilt that was made by Lizzie Carpenter.  Each block is it's own quilt and the fabrics are so beautiful.  Leslie is quilting it with a fan pattern.  It is so lovely.

Leslie just got this piece framed thanks to Dennis and his wood skills.  It is a sweet piece that brings calm.

Leslie is working on this quilt that is Norma's pattern - Land That I Love.  Leslie said it is a project to "calm my troubled heart".   Working on this quilt will help her get through the next crazy months of this year.  The backing is pictures of presidents.  It is so great!

Lorraine has been bringing out her inner child with this adorable doll that she had so much fun making.  It is an Ann Wood pattern.  Lorraine made the doll, a cute footstool and a plate and cup with clay.  So cute!

Lorraine has enjoyed slow stitching, enjoying creativity with no boundaries.  She made this sweet piece just for fun.  She also shared the book Slow Stitching: Mindful and Contemplative Textile Art.

Laraine Graehl brought this quilt with such rich colors.  The black squares set off the nine patch blocks.  It is beautiful and very striking.

Valerie has been so busy even though she has been recovering from a bad fall and ankle break.  She shared this darling country quilt with angels and pumpkins, pineapples, hens and strawberries.

Valerie is ready to take this patriotic quilt - Yes, We Can America! - to the quilter.  The pattern is on Norma's website and many of us have enjoyed making this beautiful quilt.  It is stunning.

Valerie has spent most of her last few months cross stitching and has made these beautiful pieces.

This piece is called Thomas Turkey and the pattern is by Teresa Kogut.  What fun to put out in the fall.

This piece is called Bloom and is so sweet.

The blue in this piece is so calming.  You have to be very precise to do this pattern.
It is a beautiful piece.

Look at the back!  It is as beautiful as the front!  Nice work Valerie.

Valerie bought this needlepoint kit a while ago and brought it to share with us.  It is bright and happy and the framing is so great.

Liz got her Color Dive quilt back from the quilter and just finished the binding.  It is a monument to Kaffe Fassett!

The fun backing.
